Why Choose Concrete Patios
Concrete is a common patio option that can be very visually appealing, as well as probably the lowest priced. You could also do brick, stone or pavers but we have found concrete holds up the best and with the stamped and stained concrete can look just as good. Suppose you love an outdoor party and would often invite some friends over for drinks on the patio. A simple brushed finish will work fine, but if it is in the budget, we would recommend selecting one of the stamped patterns. However, if the patio is beneath an elevated deck where it will be less visible, poured concrete may be an excellent, cost-effective option.

Optional Patio Features
Besides just the patio itself, other features can be designed in. You could have low voltage lighting for evening entertaining which could also include up lighting some trees. Plus, you could build a sitting wall around part or all of the patio. You could also design a fire pit or a place for a grill.

Stamped, Stained and Sealed Concrete Options
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete, also known as imprinted or textured concrete, imitates stones such as flagstone or a slate, as well as brick, tile, and even wood. Due to the vast number of pattern and color options, it is popular for decorating patios, pool decks, driveways, and other areas. Furthermore, it is a cost-effective paving alternative that requires less care than other options.
Some of the other features of stamped concrete include:
Some of the other features of stamped concrete include:
- It is less expensive than brick, stone, or pavers.
- Improves outdoor area’s outlook and increases the value of your property
- Provides practically unlimited pattern and color options
- When coated with a non-skid additive, it becomes slip resistant.
- It is long-lasting and durable
- When sealed, it is simple to maintain.
Stained Concrete
You can stain both the poured brushed concrete or the stamped concrete. Stained concrete is a low-cost and adaptable approach to improve the appearance of patios. You may add delicate shades of color, bold design features, and even customized graphics to a stained concrete patio. Stains penetrate thoroughly into the concrete, giving fade-resistant and everlasting color. The color will not flake or wash away like standard paints! There are two types of stained concrete that can be chosen based on your preferences.
- Acid stains: Acid stains function by permeating the layer and chemically interacting with the concrete. The acid in the stain softly etches the surface, making it easier for the stain to penetrate. When the stain combines, it becomes a permanent component of the concrete that will not chip, fade, or peel away.
- Water-based stains: Water-based stains, which come in a considerably greater range of colors, are ideal for moving far beyond the delicate intensity of acid staining. Most manufacturers provide a plethora of conventional colors, including the typical black and white, as well as metallic tints.
Sealed Concrete
Sealing the concrete is recommended. It will reduce the chance of scratching but more important it will prevent staining when you spill food or wine or oil on the patio. It will also help protect from wear. Patio sealing also protects your stained concrete patio from accumulating moisture, which over time can lead to damage during freeze-thaw cycles.
